Mr. Paetow's visit

I used my camera to video the visit with Mr. Paetow and the file is too large to upload. I will try to see if I can reformat it so that you can view it. I am so proud of your attentiveness to him and I'm proud of the kinds of questions you asked. I really enjoyed listening to him talk about his life and it makes me want to do more research about that time in history. Thanks to Kenny and Carl for making this possible for us!

Hope you are enjoying the weekend. Also...congrats to the Trojans for a big win over Hartselle!! Go Trojans!

New Info added to our Home page!

Under the Vocabulary Powerpoint tab on the Home page, are new Skill lessons that I have uploaded for you to practice with. At the bottom of the page is a "Home" button, but it takes you to the site where these lessons came from instead of back to our page, so use your "back" arrows to go back a page instead of clicking on the home button at the end of the skills lessons. I hope that they are helpful. I have also uploaded links to the Leveled Readers so that you can listen to or read them at home. This is GREAT practice and adds so much to your background knowledge about what we are reading in class. Read all three! It will only help you be better. Have a great night!

Big Day for Mrs. Lockhart

Today was such a BIG day for my family! McKenzie's website was launched (www.mckenzielockhart.com) and it has been so successful! The management team is just pumped at how many people have viewed it! It's nice to have people (students) to share it all with!

Intramurals has been put off until next Friday due to the weather this week! However, the class t-shirts are finished and should be delivered tomorrow! Yipee!!

Good evening!

I hope that your evening has gone well, although I am just now getting on the blog and realize that you should be in the bed! Sorry! If you read this in the morning...look up McKenzie's new website www.mckenzielockhart.com

Don't forget that today was the first day of a brand new 9 weeks! It's a great chance to start fresh and make it the best it can be! I love being your teacher, by the way! Oh, and I love the story this week!

More fun pics from the first 9 weeks~

Good Citizens

My good citizens for the first nine weeks are pictured below! It was a hard decision because I have a homeroom full of great students, however, these have worked extra hard in many ways throughout the entire 9 weeks. They have been helpful, kind to others, cooperative, and role models! Congraulations!

End of the 9 Weeks!

Can you believe that we are already finished with the 1st 9 weeks? I am amazed at how quickly the time is flying by! I hope that everyone has a wonderful, safe weekend. I will be grading papers and getting all the averages for you to see on Monday. You will then be able to use your Jungle Bucks for 10 points on a Reading test and then 10 Jungle Bucks for 10 points on a language (spelling and grammar) grade! You will also have the coupon for 10 points on an AR test. I am going to do the Jungle Junction next week so that you can spend some of your jungle bucks if you'd like. I'll look at our schedule and let you know what day is best. I am hoping to post some pictures over the weekend, so check in with me! Also, my daughter is singing at the Trojan House on Saturday from 7:00-close (10:00 or later), so come by and hear her! She will have CDs and T-shirts for sale.

One more thing: I know that we are doing 2 fundraisers at the same time, so don't stress about it! Just do your best with what you can. Remember that Mrs. Whitehead and I will be treating the top 2 sellers in the candle and coupon book sale to pizza lunch provided by US!! It will be fun!

Have a GREAT weekend!

FUNraisers!!

We are SO excited about the coupon book of the Shoals that we have for sale! It has LOTS of really wonderful deals that you and your friends and family will enjoy! The books are $20 each and after you sell 5, you get to keep one of them for yourself. Sell another 5 and you get another free book. Along with the free books are Walmart gift cards! Please help our school to raise money! Packets are coming home today with details about the Walmart gift cards and the free books. If you are going to McWane with your child and you are one of the 3 chaperones already signed up, there is a coupon in there that you can use on our field trip! How about that? Sounds good!

Another FUNraiser that is coming home is the Student Council candle sale. The candles are $10 each. The Student Council has always been a big part of our school and sets the tone for service and leadership in the school years ahead! Lets support them by doing our part to sell some candles!

One final note: Students! Don't forget to share the newspaper article on the Holocaust Love Story with your parents. After reading it togehter, compare and contrast the article with the story Passage to Freedom. You can use the T-chart on the back of the article or you can write it on your own paper. Find similarities and differences between the two! It is worth a 100 on a test grade for Reading THIS 9 WEEKS!!!

Tomorrow is test day!

Good evening kiddos! I hope that you have enjoyed the afternoon! I have been a busy little beaver since I left school! I hope that you all do really well on the test tomorrow. I have total confidence in you. The big thing is to connect to the story and put yourself in place of a character and really see it through their eyes! You may be thinking..."Yea, that's what a teacher would say", but I am a reader myself and it makes the story so much better when you get lost in a character!! Ok..enough already, right? Oh...don't forget that tomorrow is spirit day since the game has been moved up. If you are in Lockhart's homeroom, bring lots of money for hat day! If you are in Whitehead's class, I think she said something about paying for all of your hats? (Just kidding!!!!)

Parents: Check out the Purple Sheet!

I sent home an information sheet today with a picture of the Google page I created for our class. On the back of that page is a note to parents and at the bottom of the note is a permission form. If you will allow me to upload picture of your child or their work, I need you to check that and sign it and send it back ASAP! If you do not want your child's picture to be on the blog, then I also need you to check that and sign it and send it back ASAP! This is not part of our school Website, so I can't use the signature that we have for internet/newpaper pictures. My students last year had such fun with the blog, so I am hoping that you'll look at the posts here and check out the comments before making a decision. Please feel free to call me and ask any questions you'd like or send me a note. I hope this will make our connection stronger and more fun for the students! You parents are the GREATEST!

A New Year, New Students

This is the first posting to the class blog this year. I thought that facebook might be a good way to communicate, but I am thinking that more parents would use this format. We will see how it goes! I LOVE to hear from parents and I really love to discuss what we are doing in class with students on the blog and get their feed back.

This week, of course, is Homecoming! We wish the best of luck to our Trojans and know that they will be working toward a victory Friday night! Parents...thank you so much for all the support and for your giving spirit with the Twin Sheet sets that we were able to donate to the soldiers from our area who are coming home. My class brought 12 sets!

A few things to remind you about: Field Trip money is due by Oct. 12 at 8:00am, Class picture money ($13) is due by Oct. 6 and the book order is also due Oct. 6! Your book orders help us to get books for our classroom.
